"Signing a deal with Stooples may just be one of the silliest things we've done here at Critical Mass Interactive, but we like it!" says Billy Cain, VP of Development for the video game developer. "We've had a lot of fun putting this screen saver together, and we hope that it shows in the final product."
Stooples: Office Tools for Hopeless Fools (St. Martin's Press) takes a satirical look at office humor through absurdly funny products such as "Salesman GPS Underwear" which makes sure your salesmen is with clients in Cleveland instead of hanging out with friends in Dallas and "Butter Uppers," a powerful amphetamine that helps you juggle butt-kissing and apple polishing without losing your breath.
"There are so many silly things that go on in work that can be expressed in products," said Kevin Reifler, co-author of Stooples.
The book, set to be released Oct. 1, 2005, holds 128 pages featuring more than 220 "products" that he created along with Nick Vacca, creative director of Envy Design, a marketing company in Morristown, and Adam Najberg, an editor for Dow Jones in Europe. It is available through Amazon and Books-A-Million.
The screen saver itself has many ridiculous features that actually poke fun at other screen savers, such as dripping ink blots that fill the screen instead of simple fades, folding the images and cutting them into paper dolls instead of image swaps, "shredding" old images, and folding images into origami. "We've got a few surprises up our sleeves, but I think you can see where we're going with this. We've just had a blast with it," comments Cain.
A demo of the screensaver will be available for download soon!
